Arts Project Australia is seeking dynamic and dedicated Staff Artists to join our team and contribute to our vibrant community of artists with intellectual disabilities. Positions available for individuals with specialisation skills in ceramic, printing making and digital art.

 

POSITION TITLE: Staff Artists, specialisations required in ceramic, printing making and digital art

LOCATION: Arts Project Australia (APA) Studio Northcote, Victoria, Australia

POSITION TYPE: Permanent part-time*
SALARY: $39.57 (annual fulltime equivalent $78,100) + superannuation

REPORTS TO: Studio Manager

STAFF SUPERVISED: N/A

BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY: N/A

*Please note we have 5 x 5 hour shifts and 1 x 7.5 hour shift which will be shared between 2-3 employees. For example, if you are a specialist in ceramics, you can apply for up to 10 hours. If you are a specialist in ceramics and printmaking, you can apply for up to 20 hours.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Staff Artist, you will collaborate with APA studio artists to develop their artistic practice across technical skills and conceptual development. You will provide guidance, mentorship, and support in your area of specialisation, as well as offer general support across other mediums. Staff artists will also assist in the planning and execution of professional development opportunities for APA studio artists, such as workshops, field trips and other events. You will contribute to the creation of a supportive and inclusive studio environment, while also engaging with the broader community to promote the work of Arts Project Australia.

 

Staff Artists are required for the following days:

  • Ceramics: for Monday and/or Tuesday
  • Printmaking: for Thursday and/or Friday
  • Digital art: Tuesday and/or Wednesday.

 

ABOUT YOU:

We are looking for applicants who are passionate about contemporary art and supporting neurodivergent artists to develop their practices. A dedicated and motivated individual, you will possess a strong background in visual arts, with proficiency in one or more of the following areas: ceramics, printmaking, digital art. Experience working with people with intellectual disabilities is highly desirable. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. A passion for art and a commitment to promoting inclusivity and diversity in the arts is essential.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

(Essential)

  • Tertiary qualifications in visual arts, graphic design or equivalent
  • Specialist technical skills in one of the following areas: ceramics, print making, or digital art
  • A passion for, interest and knowledge of contemporary visual art practice and arts sector
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to lead, support, mentor and motivate individuals in the creative process.
  • Capacity to communicate effectively with neurodivergent individuals.
  • Passion for contemporary art and commitment to promoting inclusivity and diversity in the sector
  • Demonstrated positive OH&S practices
  • Current Victorian driver’s license
  • Current Working with Children Check, and NDIS Workers Screen Check, or ability to obtain both.

 

(Desirable)

  • Experience working in the arts sector, preferably small to medium and/or visual arts
  • Experience working in disability or community development sector.

 

(For digital art)

  • Up-to-date knowledge of the Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, After Effects, In Design, Premiere, and Audition
  • An understanding and ability in stop motion animation, a working knowledge of an SLR digital camera, photography techniques and studio lighting.
