Alvaro Alvarez is an established artist whose practice centres on painting and drawing.
Within the vibrant fields of compartmentalised colour, there is an interesting juxtaposition between the painstakingly deliberate and the ‘chance happening’. While beneath the painted surface, his graphite sketching—drawn in, rubbed back and drawn in again—there is a subtle underlay, adding further depth. The fine brushwork and feathery lines have an extraordinary delicacy and a haunting ethereal quality. Public collections include National Gallery of Australia. His work is also held in national and international private and corporate collections.
