Rhythms of the Handmade is the first survey exhibition of Terry Williams’ work over a twenty-three year career that spans drawing, painting, printmaking, animation, ceramics, and sculpture. Known for his lively and colourful soft sculptures, this exhibition presents a cross-section of work that begins with collections of his artist books, drawings, paintings and animations of real and imagined figurative subjects.
The enigmatic show further travels through a brief exploration of miniature domestic and utilitarian ceramic objects and ‘pillow-like’ sculptures and finishes with his recent exploration of large-scale soft sculptures that traverse diverse themes such as people and insects, to domestic fridges, stovetops, and alien spaceships. This exhibition celebrates Williams’ tactile and process driven approach to making, which transforms ordinary materials into handcrafted works of art.
The exhibition is curated by Sim Luttin & James McDonald.
