Arts Project studio artist Samraing Chea will be showing in Sydney for Hippies use the side door to enter the bazaar. Curated by Spencer Lai (AU), the show includes Alethea Everard (AUS), Ander Rennick (AUS), George Egerton-Warburton (AUS/USA), Hana Earles (AUS), Jessie Kiely (AUS/FR), Joe W. Speier (USA), Nik Lee (AUS), Samraing Chea (AUS) and Sorawit Songsataya (NZ).
At the entrance to the exhibition, under the thematic framework of Cosmopolitan, Spencer Lai invites artists from their artistic milieu to extrapolate on ideas of subcultural phenomena and their aesthetics. Hippies use the side door to enter the bazaar contextualises the work of these artists as an imagined cacophonous marketplace, or bazaar, calling upon the language of urban iconography as departure points to navigate expressions of malaise, ambivalence, community, idealism and utopia.
